About the programme
Upcoming changes to Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) funding across higher education (HE) in England are driving the need for many institutions to refocus their efforts to provide support and remove barriers for disabled learners.
This workshop, developed and delivered by our accessibility and inclusion subject specialist team, will help you to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of your support for learners.
We will focus on developing a strategic approach through benchmarking, good practice and the identification of key roles within your organisation to enable you to deliver sustainable responses. You will also explore resources available from Jisc and how they can be used to support specific staff and learner needs.
The training will cover:
What does an accessible organisation look like? – taking a learner journey
Relevant strategies and policies and how to highlight and identify issues for your organisation
Effective and efficient use of existing resources and practices
Jisc resources for benchmarking and making use of assistive technology for specific learner needs.
The workshop consists of a 90 minute online session, preceded by a short set of accompanying activities which should take about an hour to complete.
You will receive details of the pre-session activities once your booking is confirmed.
What you'll learn
By the end of the workshop you will be equipped to develop an action plan, which will help you to:
Benchmark inclusivity practices within key areas of your organisation
Identify key staff who would facilitate staff and student engagement with resources available
Implement good practice within your own organisation's existing policies and procedures
Identify support and resources available from Jisc.
Who should attend
It's aimed at anyone who is likely to be involved in their institution’s response to the upcoming DSA changes.
As well as managers and practitioners in existing disability, wellbeing and student support roles, this workshop will also be of benefit to teaching staff and those working in IT and library departments.
